Richard Burr, a senator of North Carolina, is not at all happy with the decision Apple has taken to go against the court order placed by FBI. A few days back, we have Apple getting a court order from the FBI relating to the San Bernardino case. Last year, there was a shooting at San Bernardino, and the shooter was a man called Syed Farook. As the shooter used an iPhone, the FBI had ordered Apple to create a program which will help them bypass the basic security available in Apple phones.
According to the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, this is an outrageous order, as it would mean handing FBI a tool which will give them access to all iPhones. This in turn would throw the present users of Apple iPhones at risk as they might have a lot of private information on their phone.
According to the bill put forward by the senator, any company which refuses to comply with any kind of court order should be penalized. Specifically, if the order states that a device manufactured by the company needs to be unlocked, and the company refuses to unlock it, then they should be penalized.
The bill will supposedly be constructed in such a way that it will be a modified version of the earlier stated Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act made in 1994. This Act made the companies in the field of communications to create their systems in such a way that they will actually comply with all kinds of court orders.
It has been quite a long time that the Senator is pressurizing all the communication companies to create devices which do not have the safety of encrypted security systems. The main reason behind this is to prevent any kind of criminal activity which is actually discussed on private networks.
