On the 18th of February this year, Apple had finally launched their online payment facility, Apple Pay in China, in collaboration with the largest network of state run bank in China, UnionPay. Although the release was quite big and people anticipated a lot from it, the system did not run quite that successfully.
According to a lot of users, on using Apple pay, a lot of system errors are popping up. Since the release of Apple Pay was such an anticipated situation, the very first day after its release saw almost the entire population of China using smartphones, trying to log on to the system. It is speculated that this huge load could not be handled by the system and so all the errors showed up for multiple users.
According to one particular user who used their iPhone to gain access to Apple Pay, the system kept on denying access and stated that the server could not be reached. Also, at times the card used by the user was not validated. Moreover, when the user tried to open the app again to use another card, the app refused to open.
According to the previous announcements done by Apple, China would have got the Apple Pay app in December. This would have been provided to only select users to test the working of the app in a small scale in order to make sure when finally the app would be available to all, everything will be working absolutely fine. After the whole testing phase, Apple would provide with the Apple Pay app to all the users of iPhone in China.
It has been seen that China provides Apple with one of the largest markets, second only to America. Thus, when Apple wanted to give China the Apple Pay system, they had to make it available at large. Thus, the collaborated with 19 top banks of China, making the Apple Pay system eligible for approximately 80% of all the types of debit and credit cards used in China.
