Time and again, Facebook got stuck with another problem, and this time with Apple iPhone users. This time, the concern was the impact of the iOS based Facebook app on the iPhone battery. It has been seen that on running the Facebook app on iPhones drains the battery faster than most other regularly used apps.
According to tech reporter Samuel Gibbs, as stated on the Guardian, if a user accesses the Facebook mobile site using Safari and uninstalls the actual Facebook mobile iOS app, one can save almost 15% of the battery life on their iPhones. He had personally taken records of the battery life after uninstalling the app on his phone. He then made a daily average usage of battery.
On the other hand, he used the Facebook app for the same amount of time and recorded the battery details. On comparison, the final conclusion drawn by him is that 15% battery time can be easily saved by simply using Safari to access Facebook mobile site. Moreover, another issue cropped up. When the app was there, the memory space was also affected since there were regular updates and downloads. On deletion of the app, that space was made free and now the users had more free space than before. The app itself being 111 MB, the extra space was mainly used up by the app cache memory.
Following Gibbs, many others went on to test the theory and saw that the app indeed took up more space and used up more battery. On the other hand, using Safari ended up in better battery backup as well as increased disk space. On bringing it to the attentions of Facebook, the spokesperson said that this matter was being catered to by the developers.
Even though it seems that Facebook has recently encountered complains like this, but that is not so. They are completely aware about the battery problems faced by iOS Facebook app users. Also, in October, the company had gone into releasing online updates which were meant to fix these battery issues.
