Among other rumours surrounding Apple and its various releases, one of the most discussed about is the rumour that Apple is working with Energous, a top technology company, to manufacture a range of wireless charging units for the new iPhones. WattUp, a new technology which allows easy wireless charging that can charge devices from a maximum distance of 15 feet, is developed by Energous.
All these are still a rumour, since no concrete proof has been found that shows that Apple and Energous are in any kind of legal collaboration. On the other hand, a research report created by one of the top level researchers of Disruptive Tech Research, Louis Basenese, shows a large number of reports which point towards the fact that both companies have entered a private partnership for this very special project. Thus, researches are looking into the works of Energous Technology, not only to verify the collaboration with Apple, but also to know more about the wireless charging technologies developed by the company. Basenese also says that Apple is looking to use other companies for developing the wireless charging technology, since they themselves have had very less patents in the field, only 5 and all of them before 2013.
Energous technology devices are able to charge any chargeable device within 15 feet of itself. They support up to 12 devices at a time, starting from tablets and smartphones, to items like smart watches.
In recent times, it has been seen that the technology of wireless charging has been implemented by many top level smartphone companies, all of whom are business competitors of Apple. Though, in the past, Apple did not pay much heed to this, since their devices mainly run on in-built mats and chips, and mainly depends on the close proximity of the device with the various parts, in the present age, they simply have to delve deep into the matter to stay in the market.
