With the evolution of mobile technology, the screen size has increased and modern users mostly prefer bigger handsets. Companies came up with handsets which have better screen resolution and it significantly increased the viewing experience. The multimedia aspect became more immersive as the apps became more engaging. But recently Mixpanel published a statistical report in which it is evident that almost 32.22% iPhone users are comfortable using a handset which has a screen size of 4 inches. Apple is all set to launch the “iPhone 5se” in March, 2016 and that too has the same screen size. It is somewhat contrary to the ongoing trend, but Apple always focuses on what their users want.
Since 2013, this screen size has dominated the iPhone models and as Apple launched three iPhone varieties sporting the 4-inch screen size. So why is this screen size so popular? Apart from having amazing features, mobile phones also should have pocketability and iPhones can be easily operated with one hand. This makes it easier to handle and quite naturally the users are very pleased. Bigger handsets on the other hand can cause some problems at times and they are not that easy to carry around. The iPhone 5C, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 are immensely popular in the market and according to the users, they have the perfect screen size.
The latest addition to the iPhone family, Apple’s iPhone 5s had almost 20% market share and it was followed by iPhone 5 (7.53%) and iPhone 5c (5.66%). The figures can vary slightly though. Tim Cook who is the current CEO of Apple has said recently that over 60% of iPhone users who represent the “older generation” have not yet upgraded to iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus and similar models. This says a lot about the screen size which is mostly used and probably for this reason; the upcoming model iPhone 5se will stick to the 4-inch screen. Although, some of the updated features like Live Photos, Apple Pay, etc. are not available in these older models.
