Apple in this past week has released the iOS 9.3 beta for developers and also released the OS X 10.11.4 beta for developers.
One new addition to the OS X 10.11.4 is the much improved Live Photos support that has been provided for the Messages application. Live Photos was introduced along with the iPhone 6s, with the only place to view the Live Photos was a Mac with the Mac Photos application. In the Mac OS X 10.11.4, the Live Photos feature is viewed in the Messages app on the Mac.
When a message with a Live Photo has been received on the new OS X 10.11.4, it will feature an icon with the much familiar and recognizable concentric circles of a Live Photo. By clicking on that icon the Live Photo will result in a mini photo viewer opening within the Messages application on the Mac. This window plays that Live Photo. This new feature is a huge boost to the Live Photos trend that is catching on, with friends and family sending Live Photos regularly these days.
Apple is looking to extend the support for Live Photos on to other apps like Mail and Safari. Live Photos is a feature from iPhone 6S, which adds a bit of motion into photos. It is like those Harry Potter motion pictures. The Live Photo makes the camera capture 3 secs of video related to the still image. The Live Photos can only be created with the iPhone 6s or the iPhone 6s Plus.
This feature is sure to be a welcome addition to the Operating System.
