One of the most annoying Mac applications the MacKeeper has suffered a major security glitch. Whitehat hacking expert Chris Vickery had announced on the Reddit platform that he has been able to access secretive and sensitive data for 13 million MacKeeper accounts and users. MacKeeper originally developed by Zeobit had been acquired by Kromtech.
Vikcery made a statement on Reddit that said “The data was/is publicly available. No exploits or vulnerabilities involved. [Zeobit and Kromtech] published it to the open web with no attempt at protection.” The data was available by a random “port:27017” search done on the site Shodan.io.
Since that statement Vickery has been contacted by MacKeeper developers to fix the issue. MacKeeper has released a statement that said that it “will continue to take every possible step to protect the data of our customers from the evolving cyber threats that companies both large and small face on a daily basis.” The report also specified that MacKeeper uses a third party merchant for all the credit card based transactions and that the critical credit card informations issafe and was “never at risk”.
MacKeeper has been a major Mac app known for its overaggressive popup advertising and also its shady behavioral practises. It has been suspected that the application may never have had an actual use at all. It has been quite a burning question all over the internet that how touninstall the MacKeeper.
