The tech giant Apple has restrained German car giant Volkswagen from releasing the wireless CarPlay connectivity with iOS devices. It has been in development from months now. The CES was seen as the perfect place to launch it. CarPlay was added as a functionality to the iOS 9 for connecting with Volkswagen cars. The commercial release for this system has not been discussed yet.
“We wanted to demonstrate wireless CarPlay and the owner of CarPlay technology didn’t allow us to,” the head of electrical and electronic development at Volkswagen Volkmar Tannerberger said in the report.
It is being seen as a move by Apple to get more control over the elements of the system before it gets a public release. This is a wireless system instead of the old USB link up CarPlay system.
Since Volkswagen was not allowed to showcase the CarPlay, it showed a different MirrorLink technology to link up the digital system to the cars. Many other companies along with Volkswagen have made announcements for this Apple based incar link up system CarPlay for quite some time now. Companies like JVC, Jeep, Chrysler, Kenwood, Dodge and others have made such announcements.
