The company Double Robotics has started the new year with an upgrade to its iPad based telepresence robot “Double”. The new product is a successor robot called “Double 2”. In terms of design it is not very different from the original “Double”, but in terms of performance there are two major changes that make the performance better.
The first feature that has raised the standard from the previous edition is Lateral Stability Control feature. The feature makes the Double 2 stable in balance and does not let it fall over when it is roaming and accidentally rolls over a bump or a cord. This feature makes for a smoother camera view from the remote device.
Another improvement has been the speed of the device. The driving speed has been boosted by around 80%. The Double 2 speeds at around 1.6 miles per hour, while its predecessor had the speed of 0.9 miles per hour.
The company has also introduced a new camera kit, that has a 150 degree wide view, a good 70% increase from the iPad view it originally had. The kit also has a Floor View feature that lets the user see the path on which the robot is driving. The camera can also click photos in 5MP now.The robot works with all iPad models except the iPad mini and iPad Pro.
The pricing is the same as the Double on its launch, $2,499. Additional Camera Kit is $250. The all accessory bundle costs around $3000. There is also a 10% discount for current customers till the end of February.
