SoftBank Acquires ARM Technology

Much recently Softbank has acquitted three chip manufacturing company ARM. The legalities were complemented by Softbank on September 5th for the amount of £24M or $32M. Techcrunch has also reported that the company is being delisted from the London stock exchange and will be running and functioning as a standalone company within the Softbank.

The sale of the company is not expected to be carrying too much impact on the Apple. ARM technologies was the licensed manufacturer of the A series chip for the Apple iPhones and the other iOS devices. ARM technology is the British company, which is responsible for designing the A series processors which are being in the Apple iPhones and other iOS devices. The deal still needs to be approved by the shareholders. There are higher possibilities that some other companies may be also bidding for the company.

Intel as well as Apple is expected to be among the suggested buyers who are looked as the companies potentially carrying the bidding honors. ARM is one of the companies who recognized the demand for the growth in the mobile sector. ARM was one of the companies which designed the chips however never manufactured these chips. Instead they started charging royalties against the manufacture of the chip from the other companies. This has helped ARM technology to emerge as the major player in the market.

Some of the designed chips of ARM technologies are also being used in the Android phones apart from the Apple devices. More than 15 billion devices were last year reported to be using the chips designed by the ARM technologies. Softbank is planning to double up the employees in next 5 years of their operations. Softbank says, this is one of the most significant and one of the most important acquisitions done by them till date.
