A ZFS Developer’s Analysis of the Good and Bad in Apple’s New APFS File System

A totally new file method has been announced by Apple which will officially makes its way to the watchOS, iOS, tvOS and even the macOS in the following years to come. At this point as per the media coverage that has been covered is said to be elongations which are breathless of the developer’s documentation of Apple. An overview had been given by the APFS team which addressed the various questions that had been asked in this front. There were several sections of the overview so that an in‐depth detail could be provided easily and also ensuring that everything which was important was covered. The topics that were covered included the basics, the various aspects of Management and performance, Space efficiency, backup and snapshots, Data integrity, paying down debt and various other topics. The APFS testing team was praised by Dominic Giampaolo who is parcel of the team stating that it was an example, which is said to be very critical and one of the general adage is that when it comes to maturing a file method, it can take a very long time. However what had also been stated that was that the company is said to deliver the APFS within 3 to 4 years after its development. If this is the case, then the acceleration would have to be done more quickly and maturely.

Giampaolo was the one person who had been the lead engineers when in 2014 the Apple File System had started. It’s an implementation that is from scratch and is said to be a standalone one. At the WWDC, there were various snapshots that had been demonstrated by Eric Tamura, the APFS dev manager which also provided some really useful insight on what is yet to come.
