Encryption Expert Jon Callas Rehired by Apple

The debate regarding national security or encryption still remains even though the fight between the FBI and Apple in regards to the iPhone that revolved around the San Bernardino case. Efforts are now being out by the company in regards to the security options is being beefed up for their consumer devices. It was recently reported by Reuters that Jon Callas a security expert that is well respected has been hired by Apple. It is also believed that the company plans to overhaul the security team completely and that is also one of the reason why this particular hire was done.

It was told that Apple had rehired Callas who was PGP Corp AKA Symantec, Blackphone and Silent Circle where all co founded by him. For those who have never heard about the company named Silent Circle, well this is a company which deals in the phone call protection from eavesdroppers while the user data first protection and security for phones which are powered by Android’s is developed by Black phone.

Though no specifics were given pertaining to the role in the company, however, it was officially confirmed by them that he has been rehired. This move has come especially after a lot of pressure which was intense came from the government and the FBI in regards to the advancement of user encryption. We all know that the company had refused to come up with a tool which would unlock the 5c iPhone that one of the shooters of the San Bernardino shooting had used. Eventually the iPhone was unlocked by the FBI using the help of Third Party Company. Even then the commitment of the company in regards to the user data was maintained by Apple. It is also believed that now, the company is working to beef up the security that surrounds the iCloud service for which a developer was recently hired who was behind the secure chatting app that was recommended by Edward Snowden.
