Apple Uses Rival Company For New Series Of Displays

In the year 2017, Apple will be looking to add a different type of high end display unit on their products, namely the OLED display system. Recent reports have shown that the company who will actually be supplying Apple with the new OLED type screen will be none other than Apple’s top rival in the world of smart devices, Samsung. A deal has been struck between the companies worth $ 2.59 billion, which states that Apple will be provided with the new age OLED display units by Samsung per year. Annually, Samsung Display Co. will be sending Apple approximately a hundred million units of the display, which are OLED panels of 5.5 inches.

The main advantage of the OLED panels over the traditionally used LCD display is that the former does not need any kind of back lighting. This new type of display will allow Apple to reduce the thickness of its range of smart iOS devices by a significant amount. Another advantage is the quality of display. According to the reports, the OLED display is capable of providing higher and sharper quality of images and also with much higher brightness. On the other hand, there are some issues with the OLED display system which Apple needs to overcome to make it work as a profitable venture in the long run.

The two basic issues which Apple needs to address as soon as possible are the higher cost of manufacturing for OLED display, and the short longevity of the device. The fact that Apple has been looking to make a deal with Samsung has been out in the open since January. LG was also rumored to supply Apple with the OLED devices, but finally, it seems that Samsung won the race.
