Apple Unlocking Order History With FBI And State Government

As factual data related to the FBI and Apple case which is going on now about unlocking the iPhone 5c, many wonder how many times did the government actually reach out to the company to get the security source code to unlock Apple iPhones. According to the ACLU, the government had asked Apple a number of times to hand over their security source code, or create a new iOS for them or simply unlock a given iPhone confiscated in any form of case. As per the reports, most of the confiscated iPhones come from drug related cases.

As per the earlier reports, many of the court orders placed by the government to the company did not have any reason for which the company’s aid was asked. According to other reports from the ACLU, the places whose government had made the maximum court case3s of similar type against Apple are New York (leading the group with 12 cases) and California (a close second with 11 cases). Other states involved in the matter are Washington, Louisiana, Florida, Arizona and many more.

Another company who has faced a similar kind of heat from state governments is Google. Even they have had issues with unlocking devices and or accounts for the government. Although the competition is fierce among the two, reports show that Apple has actually had more court orders sent their way from the state as compared to Google. All these court orders sent to private companies come from the All Writs Act, which states that
