Complying With Court Order Will Ruin Apple Security

Recently, Apple got a court order from the FBI to create a backdoor to the Apple iPhone. According to the FBI, this backdoor will enable them to unlock the iPhone 5c used by the San Bernardino shooter, Syed Farook. On the other hand, as per the CEO of the company, as well as their lawyer, creating such a backdoor to Apple iPhones will in fact destroy the credibility and the security the company promises its customers with their devices. A backdoor like this will give the FBI investigators the power and the weapon to unlock any Apple iPhone and that will endanger the personal security of all iPhone users across the world.

Complying With Court Order Will Ruin Apple Security

According to Ted Olsen, Apple’s attorney, this will give the government limitless power over Apple. Moreover, he stated that Apple has complied with every request put forward by the FBI for investigating the San Bernardino case, but all the other requests were law abiding and ethical. The present Director of FBI, James Comey says that they simply want Apple to make such a software which will help the investigators try out different passwords without the phone automatically clearing its contents after a certain number of false inputs. According to him, the FBI actually does not want Apple to give them a key to all iPhones, but simply this particular iPhone.

According to government investigation updates, some of the data was actually recovered from the shooters iCloud account by resetting the password, but no progress can be done in regards to the iPhone due to the security issue. As per the government, the phone contains a lot of critical information and it is very important to gain access to it.

According to Tim Cook, a unique password to only a single iPhone cannot be created. If one backdoor is actually created, it can be used to gain access to all iPhones, which is “too dangerous”, according to the CEO. Moreover, if this technology somehow falls in the wrong hands, it will be the end of Apple security and in turn, the security of Apple users.
