F.lux Calls Night Shift A Copied Product

The new feature in the new iOS 9.3 has been the Night Shift. This is a feature which cuts down the amount of blue light at nighttime from the screen, so that the users do not loose their sleeping cycles. The feature is similar to the app f.lux which was introduced for the Mac and later for iOS devices. The makers of the f.lux feel that they have been cheated as the technology used in Night Shift is exactly similar to the one used in f.lux. The move is also after an earlier one in which Apple blocked the app f.lux from its App Store.

F.lux Calls Night Shift A Copied Product

The developers at the company f.lux said in an official statement that Apple’s move to take care of the blue light spectrum is a huge step, but they also want their app to feature in the App Store.

“We’re proud that we are the original innovators and leaders in this area. In our continued work over the last seven years, we have learned how complicated people actually are. The next phase of f.lux is something we cannot wait to ship to the world. […] “ the statement said.

Scientific research has proved that the amount of bright blue light in the nighttime is a cause of sleep disorders causing insomnia in some cases, in addition to disrupting sleep cycles and immune system. There had been no tool for the iOS devices hence this new feature will prove to be a good addition. This November, f.lux developed an app to attempt to bring the official iOS app of the f.lux for devices like iPhone and the iPad. Apple disable the downloads in both the official way through the Apple Store as well as sideloading through Xcode.

Apple has denied permission to f.lux to feature in the App Store because of the supposed infringements that f.lux made when accessing the temparature controls of devices without requisite permissions. The feature ‘Night Shift mode’ is at present only available to public beta testers and developers running iOS 9.3. This feature will be available for the public release later in the spring along with the iOS 9 launche.
